2020 Scholarships are NOW OPEN!

*IMPORTANT UPDATE* Any scholarship applications that require being mailed to the Kelly Leadership Center need to be submitted by email, due to the closure of schools and offices. Please email any applications you would normally mail to spark@pwcs.edu. If an application was sent by mail any time in the month of March, please resubmit via email to the above email address. This does not affect online applications submitted digitally through the Kaleidoscope platform. Thank you

NOTE: The scholarship review committee guidelines below apply only to the scholarships that are exclusively administered by SPARK.  

Scholarship Review Committee Guidelines:

No scholarship committee member shall be related to any applicant.

Student name and school name are redacted prior to review and selection by committee.

Scholarship awards shall be based on merit and qualifications and shall not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, or disability.

SPARK scholarship committee will utilize established rubric during the selection process. 

SPARK is only a part of the selection process for the following exclusively administered scholarships:

Chick-fil-A Prince William County Scholarship
This scholarship awards $4,000 to one PWCS graduating high school senior. 
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020

Dr. Edward L. Kelly Scholarship
$1,500 scholarship to three graduating PWCS high school seniors who intend to pursue studies to enter the teaching profession.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020

Lockheed Martin Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship
$1,500 to a graduating PWCS high school senior who plans to pursue a career in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field. The recipient will also be eligible to apply for a Lockheed Martin paid internship opportunity.

Micron Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship
$1,500 to graduating PWCS high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in a technology, engineering, or mathematics field.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020

YES Scholarship
This scholarship awards $5,000 to one graduating high school senior that attended Yorkshire Elementary School for at least one year. 
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020

SPARK manages the funds for the following scholarships, which are designated by specific school.

Applicants must attend the school associated with the scholarship to be eligible to apply. SPARK acts solely as the fiscal agent for the following scholarships and is not part of the selection process, therefore they are not exclusively administered by SPARK. 

Austin Trenum Memorial Scholarship-Brentsville District High School
$1,000 to graduating high school senior at Brentsville District High School. Please contact the Brentsville District High School counseling department for application and details.

Kristen Marie Harkness Memorial Scholarship-Osbourn Park High School
$2,000 to graduating high school senior at Osbourn Park High School. Please contact the Osbourn Park High School counseling department for application and details.

Sara Lott Memorial Scholarship- Forest Park High School
$1,500 to graduating high school senior at Forest Park High School. Please contact the Forest Park High School counseling department for application and details.

Victor A. Cahoon Scholarship- Osbourn Park High School
$3,000 to graduating high school senior at Osbourn Park High School. Please contact the Osbourn Park High School counseling department for further information.

The following scholarships are open to all seniors in PWCS, given they meet the scholarship’s requirements.

In some cases, SPARK acts as the fiscal agent for the following scholarships, but is not part of the selection process, therefore they are not exclusively administered by SPARK. 

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Post-Secondary Scholarship
$1,000 to one graduate of PWCS who completed a VDOE approved CTE sequence of courses and plans to pursue a CTE plan of study at a post-secondary institute.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020


Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship
$1,000 to one graduate of PWCS who completed a VDOE approved CTE sequence of courses and plans to pursue a Professional Certification, an Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree, or an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020


David J Cobb Foundation Scholarship (PDF)
$1,000 to one graduate of PWCS who plans to pursue a degree in the medical field.  
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020

Kathleen Getzewich Memorial Scholarship (PDF)
The Kathleen Getzewich Memorial Scholarship is pleased to offer a $1,000 scholarship to a Prince William County graduating high school senior.

Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship
Scholarships of $10,000 per student – renewable each year. The program will continue to add up to 200 new recipients each year and will be open to individuals studying engineering or computer science that demonstrate financial need and come from underrepresented or under-served communities.
Deadline: March 12, 2020.

Lockheed Martin Vocational Scholarship
Awarding up to $6,600 to as many as 150 recipients this year. The scholarship will fund degrees at accredited vocational-technical schools to prepare students for careers in technology and/or advanced manufacturing that does not require a bachelor’s or advanced degree.
Deadline: March 12, 2020.

Northern Virginia Community College Growing Our Own Scholarship (PDF)
The Northern Virginia Community College Education Foundation has partnered with Prince William County Schools Growing Our Own program to establish an annual scholarship award to be provided to two graduating high school seniors who intend to pursue studies to enter the teaching profession. The scholarship award is $2,500.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The applicant must be a graduating senior attending a Prince William County Public High School who is planning to further his/her education by enrolling at Northern Virginia Community College for two years. 

  • The applicant must plan to transfer to a four-year college/university and enroll in a teacher preparation program to pursue teacher certification.

  • The applicant must be at least one of the following: 

1. Member of Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers™ (TSTT)

2. Student enrolled in the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow (VTfT) course 

3. Student enrolled in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) course 

4. Active participant in the high school’s Educators Rising® chapter

Nursing Scholarship
$1,000 to one graduate of PWCS who participated in the Licensed Practical Nursing program and is continuing a plan of study in nursing.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on April 10, 2020

Payton's Project- Free Bullying Scholarship Application
This scholarship awards $1,000 to one eligible graduating high school senior from each of the twelve (12) Prince William County High Schools, that plan to pursue studies at a higher learning institute.
